I have the above upright freezer which I believe to have a bad temperature control P/N 216521200. The symptoms are the unit will not turn on unless I push the quick freeze button located on the door handle. The unit will then come on and freeze way below -20º and keep on running until I push the quick freeze button again. The unit will then sit idle until it warms up to room temp. I've adjusted the temp control from lowest to highest setting. The unit will not cycle on.
Frigidaire / Electrolux has discontinued this part and I find no substitutions.
1. Am I correct to say its the temperature control as the culprit?
2. If so what might I use as a substitute?
3. HELP!

I would say yes.
To confirm this you could unplug the unit and measure across the thermostat's contacts. It should be 0 ohms when the freezer is warm.
OF
Unplug the unit and short the two thermostat wires together. You may have to tape them so they cannot short to anything else. Then plug it in. If the compressor runs then the thermostat is bad.

I do not have a number for you.
If you take it to a parts supply house they may be able to get/have a suitable replacement. Some counter people are very knowledgeable about their stock.
It is important that the thermostat is for a freezer not a fridge.
Also that the capillary tube is close to the same length. It is the end of the capillary which actually measures the temperature so it has to be where the old one is.
This is a bit of a gamble but is all I can think of. |

Ok I ran a continuity check across A-C and R-C with temp control in off position and at coldest setting with no results. So it is a bad control. (saw how to test it on YouTube channel because I wasn't sure what OF or 0 ohms meant)
Spoke with a local Appliance parts store they said a sub might work but the mounting brackets on this one are completely different. If anyone finds a substitute with similar brackets can you give me the parts number?
