The timer on my dryer will only advance when using the timed heat setting and it doesnt generate any heat in any setting.

What could the problem be?

Since this dryer has one of those junk timers that fail all the time, that is the most likely problem but it could be something else such as an open heater element or bad motor switch. Timer can be returned if it doesn't fix the problem.
