When preheating my oven tonight (whirlpool rf263lxtq) there was a strong smell of electrical burning. I removed the cover on the back of the range and discovered that there was burning around the oven light fixture and surrounding insulation and singed insulation around the upper element. I have attached pictures for reference. Any ideas what's happening and how I can fix it? heightenedreality attached the following image(s):

I do not think that either location is where the electrical burning smell came from. Both locations look normal to me.
When you use the oven vapors can escape whenever there is a hole in the oven walls. They then condense on the cooler parts re: insulation etc. Over time they discolor due to the heat.
For electrical burning I would first look at the terminal strip where the line cord attaches. Next I would check the control board. Also look for burned/bubbled insulation on any wires.
Above is just my 2 cents as I cannot say anything for sure without being there. |
