The refrigerator freezer seating surface ( the box itself, not the door) is VERY hot to the touch. It is cooling and the freezer is cold but ref body, where the freezer door seal seats against the the box, is extremely hot. Again it runs and seems to be cooling.

Here are your parts
Parts for Maytag MTF2656DEW Refrigerator - AppliancePartsPros.com

This is often due to poor air flow around the condenser coils.

Check/clean the front kick plate grill and the holes in the rear cover.
Check that the condenser/compressor fan is running when the compressor is running.
Check that the condenser fan blades are clean.
Check/clean the condenser coils under the unit.

If the unit a=has a eco switch turn the switch to off.
This is a feature on some units that runs a heater in the divider to stop condensation when there is high ambient humidity.

If all is OK then check the freezer temperature.
It should be between 0 and 5 degrees F.

You are welcome.

And thanks for getting back to us. Now when others search for a similar problem they will see what actually worked instead of just suggestions about what could be the cause.
