Whirlpool Fridge Warm - Freezer cold - Evaporator Fan not running

I tried finding the answer in previous posts, but couldn't find anything specific. My apologies if I'm repeating a problem. My fridge went warm, but the freezer was cold. Compressor is fine; compressor fan works; damper opens and closes when I manually put the freezer in defrost. I took the back panel off the freezer and the coils were frosted (thick frost) and the copper pipes, the defrost thermostat (that clips on the copper pipe) and the wires on the right side of the evaporator fan were in a solid block of ice. The evaporator fan was NOT running. I unplugged the fridge, let it defrost over night, and plugged it back in the next day. The compressor came on, the fan came on, the evaporator fan did NOT come on and the fridge did not cool down. The wires and copper pipes immediately started to frost again. When I put it in manual defrost, it DOES appear to be melting the frost on the copper pipes and the coils, but it goes out of defrost mode before it all melts away. I replaced the evaporator fan motor and it still does not work. I'm about to order the JAZZ board, but I wanted to make sure that's what the problem is before I spend the money. I also don't have the proper tools to "test" the thermostat. Thanks in advance for the help.

Here are your parts Parts for Whirlpool GB2FHDXWQ01 Refrigerator - AppliancePartsPros.comSee the attachment for the tech sheet. I also don't have the proper tools to "test" the thermostat. The defrost thermostat seems OK because the heater does come on. It might be opening too soon but that would be very rare. If it is deformed/bulged replace it. I doubt this is your problem because after your manual defrost the compressor came on and the unit tried to cool down but the evaporator fan did not come on. You could try running the diagnostics. If you order the board from AppliancePartsPros and it does not fix the problem you can return it. Please see their return policy. |

Thanks for the tech sheet. I ran all the tests and everything checked out okay EXCEPT the evaporator fan. But the fan motor is brand new. Would it not run if the mother/jazz board is faulty? Thanks again. :)

Would it not run if the mother/jazz board is faulty? Not quite sure that I understand the question. The jazz board controls the evaporator fan so there can be a problem with it that would keep the fan off.
You cannot assume that a new part is actually good. Doing this can get you going in circles when the problem was just a bad replacement part.
Check across the fan for 120 volts, If there is 120 volts and the fan does not turn it is bad.
If there is no voltage then odds are high that the board is bad. Note the compressor should be on. |
