i have a maytag MAV9750AWW washer that over heats. Can smell electrical when motor shuts down from the heat. Drive belt has wear on it,very fine rubber dust under machine. Washer will run for a few minutes and over heat, until this happened it worked fine,no noise or jumping. Is it the motor or something else?

Check to see that nothing is caught in the pump or that the pump is not jammed in some way. Also see if the transmission pulley turns easily.

Then operate the machine with the front panel off and see how the motor is doing when it is supposed to run. If it is the motor I would recommend replacing it as a new top loader will do a great job and you won't have to worry about expensive repairs for a long time.
