Got a strange problem with my dryer. When I start it the heater runs for about 5 min. and then the heater stops. The unit continues to run but no heat for the rest of the drying cycle. I checked the thermal fuse, high limit and cycling thermostat and everything has continuity. I also checked the lines and inside for lint build-up and it is all clear. The strange thing is that when I start it up I can see (with front panel off) the heater unit heating but after about 5 min. I can hear the cycling thermostat open, the heater unit stops working but for some reason when the temperature drops and cycling thermostat closes again the heater unit won't come back on. Very strange. Is there something else I am missing here? What would keep the heater from coming on after the cycling thermostat closes? Should the heater come back on? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

another thing i am wondering about is the inner terminals on the cycling thermostat. They seem to be open (OL) and no resistance. Is that normal?

I think I figured it out. It is a bad selector switch. The one for selector no heat, regular/perm press and delicate. For some reason that switch no longer has continuity between L1 and 1,2 and 3. Not sure how that happened. Maybe a recent lightning storm. Anyway, when i bypassed that switch the dryer works fine.

Sorry we were unable to help. Speed Queen wiring diagrams are hard to come by. Even many of their service manuals do not include them. Must get the diagram from inside the machine itself.

The inner terminals on the thermostat are for the thermostat heater that is used when low heat is selected. This is a resistor that generally reads around 5000-7000 ohms.
