We have a recently new (2+ years) Whirlpool top-loading HE washer that when it goes through the spin cycle sounds a bit like a plane taking off. It appears that the spin cycle is moving super fast.
The drum doesn't sound out-of balance or anything like that. And this has probably been going on for about a month or two. We don't detect any leak and there doesn't seem to be any problem with the washing. (We use it about 10 times a week.)
We try not to overload it with clothes.

Any thoughts or things I should check out?

(Thanks in advance.)

It probably just sounds like it's going too fast rather than actually spinning too fast. Most likely, the tub seal has leaked a little which allows water to get right into the top transmission housing bearing. If your a good mechanic and really like fixing things, that bearing can be replaced but otherwise, the transmission is considered non serviceable and must be replaced.

Eric:
Thanks for your help in this. Is the transmission problem serious to the point where I should replace it soon? Or should I just live with it until it goes out - which might be a year?
I'm handy, but I suspect replacing the bearing itself is a bit more than I can handle with the tools I have. I'm not against replacing the transmission myself though if it's not too complex. Do you have any repair suggestions or should I just google search it and probably find a video that will help?
And was the link you included the link to the actual part I would need.

I guess as long as you can stand the noise, it will be ok. I don't know of a video for doing this on your model. Requires removal of inner tub, drive pulley, shift actuator, splutch, drive motor and capacitor. Link is for the part you would need.
