Just bought a house the old owners did say they didn't use the ice maker because the defrost cycle melted all the ice and it refroze into a mess. I turned it on and it made good ice for about 2 days, then it all melted and froze into a mess. I cannot imagine why the defrost cycle would do this so I searched this forum and found plenty of problems but nothing specific about how to resolve the problem.

Everything works well, even the water dispenser and it made and delivered ice for a few days, now it just pours water and freezes into icicles with no cubes.

Where do I start with trying to resolve this? I did see a post about checking the mother board soldered wires, but the thread died without any result, any ideas please???

Okay done that. I don't understand though why a sticking water solenoid or bad ice maker would cause all the ice that it had made perfectly well in two days to melt then freeze into icicles?

No Excess water. The refrigerator and freezer are maintaining the exact set temperature without fault it seems so it would appear that compressor and fan are working correctly. Food in the freezer does nor soften only the ice melts, you would think food on the top shelf would go soft when the ice melts but it doesn't ???

Is there a way of testing the thermostat? and is there a list of things I could be checking/testing and how/where to find them? Do you know if there is such a thing as a technicians manual available for this model?

Reading threads on this and other forums led me to understand that it was the defrost cycle that was the problem and not the ice maker. So I changed the motherboard and now it works perfectly.............for now!
