Hello all ! I often come here & lurk when I need advice about repairing something, & usually lurking does the trick. However, I couldn't find a solution that was exact to my issue.
Frigidaire, smooth-top range, model number noted. Had only about a few years. We had an issue before (while still under warranty) with an eye that blew out. It was replaced & never had a problem until now.
Like many others, I began to use my oven one morning & there was a loud pop & spark, followed by the oven going out completely. Checked the stove top, & none of the eyes are working either. Pulled back the stove to check for any damage, but did not do an extensive pull-apart-and-check process. The oven element does have a hole in it (looks damaged) & will need to be replaced, but my question is--
would that cause the ENTIRE stove to stop working?? The clock, buttons, etc. do still light up & work. The oven & stove top are dead. Will replacing the bottom element fix the whole stove? Is there something else that I need to check?
Thanks for any assistance offered.

Here are your parts Parts for Frigidaire FEF368GCE Range - AppliancePartsPros.comSounds like a power problem. The control board and lights use half the line (120 volts) (L1 to Neutral) All the elements need the full line (240 volts) (L1 to L2) Try flipping the breaker off/on slowly a couple times. Sometimes you can loose half the line without actually tripping the breaker. Check the voltage at the plug L1 to L2 should be 240 volts L1 to Neutral and L2 to Neutral, both should be 120 volts. If OK Unplug the unit and check the wires at the terminal strip in the machine to make sure none are loose or burned out If OK Check the power at the terminal strip. Do this with the heater off and on. Be careful as 240 volts is lethal !!! Will replacing the bottom element fix the whole stove? No but along with the above it might. Is there something else that I need to check? See above. Sometimes when an element blows it also damages the control board but you will not know if it did till you replace the element. Be sure to unplug the unit when replacing the element as most stoves have one side of the element live even when the element is turned to off. |
