Fridge worked fine at prev location, moved it, transported upright position(naturally), and so I turn cold/coldest levers to coldest mode, fridge gets cold & freezer gets cold...after several hours, maybe even the next day, it stops running and all coldness lost.... :(
So, then, I turn levers to off positon, then back up to colder/coldest and it kicks back on! begins to run fine again and get cold once more...does this sound like something as simple as the switch needing replacement? Or could anyone make any other suggestions as to what it may be? i plan to fix myself, cuz fridge guy wants to charge me $200 for part/labor..he says it's the switch, but who knows...he was here only 5 mins....sigh. I miss food.....PLEASE HELP! im justa girl!:p

Not a hi-jack here, but i have a similar problem. Whirlpool ED25TWXDW01. The fridge will just stop cooling and when the control knob is turned back and forth it will kick back on. from a search it appears the thermostat would need replaced.... anything else i should do to confirm this? I have brushed & vacuumed the dust bunnys from under, & do not see anything else wrong visualy. Thanks in advance, bullyandbif

When it does not start try unplugging and replugging the unit. If it starts up the following test will not work. If it does not start up then you could try measuring across the thermostat contacts with a meter. If it is not 0 ohms you then know that the contacts are not closing when they should and the thermostat needs replacing. Make sure the unit is unplugged you do not want to blow your meter. Note that sometimes just moving the thermostat will unstick the contacts.
Personally I would just replace the thermostat as odds are high that it is the cause. |

Thanks for the info. My curiosity got to me and i pulled the t-stat when i noticed black dust lyinig under it,proceded to disasemble enuf to find the points are burned off to the rivet that holds it on.So its junk IMO. Thats a pricey lil part too. Cheaper than a new fridge though. Thanks again, bullyandbif
