This freezer recently started working in an intermittent fashion. I noticed water under the door and discovered some of the food thawing. I had an appliance guy come out and look at it and it was cooling when he came so he couldn't fix it. He said it was probably the fan was getting weak.

So, the problem continued and I replaced the fan. This didn't help solve the problem. I did notice it was making a loud hum from time to time. After reading some forums, I replaced the defrost timer and the relay on the side of the compressor. It still makes the relay hum but it sounds different than before I replaced the relay.

The appliance guy said he thought the compressor wasn't the problem as it was cooling well (when it did cool). The unit didn't have a build up of ice on the coils behind the inner panel.

Any thoughts on what else I can replace would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

So, how would I check this? Just listen and verify it is struggling?

If this is the case, then what? Can freon be added to these systems?

It finally quit getting colder than about refrigerator cool. I had the man come out and the top of the coils were frosty and the rest were not. He said that indicated low freon, so he tapped it and put Freon in. I just checked and it is quite cold.

So, hopefully the 10-11 year leak will be plugged as the freon has some sort of leak fixing stuff in it. We'll see...
