The washer was trying to agitate and spin, but was not appearing to do so. It would run through a cycle, fill and drain, but the clothing was still wet. After numerous attempts at finding the problem I finally pitched it over and looked underneath. What I found was apparently (from the technician's manual Whirlpool so wonderfully hid between the frame and basket) the run capacitor which had melted down.

I ordered a new part part with matching part number and just installed this evening. Hooked everything back up and lastly plugged in washer. A hum shortly started after being plugged in. I can't tell if it is from the capacitor or the motor. It is strong enough to vibrate the floor a tad. Can anyone tell me what the real problem here may be?

I have a picture of the melted part if it would help, but can't seem to find a way to post it.

Thank you!

Check the wiring between motor and capacitor and between motor and control board. Common to find breaks in wiring on these washers especially at wire tie downs especially at the coil of wire between capacitor and motor. They tightened them too much at the factory causing the inner strands of wires to break. Also re-seat connectors at motor and control board. Check that motor rotates freely by hand. Another common problem is that the nut holding the main drive pulley on gets loose causing the pulley to hit the belt guard which can put strain on the motor.
