I just bought a fridge that is 3 years old from a friend.
They told us when we bought it that they weren't sure if the freezer was working well, and thought it wasn't regulating due to the fact that they didn't really keep much in it.
We got it home and plugged it in and the freezer is not cold at all, even though we put some non-perishables in it (alcohol) just to see if it would start to cool if it sensed things were in there.

It is only 3 years old - what might be the issue? My boyfriend thinks we should just return it to them, but if we can easily fix it, it would be so nice! Please let me know if you have suggestions of what might be wrong!

Is the compressor running?
You can usually hear it but also should be able to feel it vibrating.

If it is running is it on all the time other than when the unit goes through a defrost cycle.
