Dryer will not automatically cut of nor does the timer switch on the front show time used. What could cause this?

If the timer doesn't advance in both timed dry and auto dry, then the timer is bad. If problem only occurs in auto dry, then the operating thermostat is not opening. This can be caused by poor air flow due to excessive lint in the venting, a faulty thermostat or a problem with the heat coil.
