freezer 5degrees fridge 48degrees
freeze iced up. i turn the bottom of timer to it clicks and the heater starts to get hot and defrost. i did check continuty on heater ok and also the thermo sensor ok also. base on what i have read this means the timer is bad. is this correct. is there any other test for the timer. also the fan in freeze has not been on at anytime since i took the rear panel off. when does it suppose to come on.

You could mark the timer cam and a lined up spot on the cover. Then check it after a couple hours to see if the timer has moved. If not then the timer is bad.
Note that this will tell you that the timer is bad but does not tell you that it is good as it may have other problems which can cause no defrost.

It should be on whenever the compressor is on.
When the compressor is on check across the fan for 120 volts.
If there is vo;ltage and it does not turn it is toast. |

If there is vo;ltage and it does not turn it is toast. removed fan motor had 120v to fan i benched test fan motor w120 v no fan. i ordered. if fan is not working will it build up enough frost to clogged air passages? i read that on some fridges that if the fan quits you might also need control board.??

I am not sure abut this.
I would have thought it would produce less frost on the coils as you are not pulling any warm/moist air through them.
SoI think you still will have a defrost problem.

Not in your unit.
This often applies to units that use a control board and a DC voltage fan. |
