Though it was running fine, all of a sudden on a new load, all looks fine, lights turn on for options, press and hold start, it emits a hum, then stops. Never the sound of a flame going on.

What are my next steps?

Please advise - Can't afford a pro to come in and I have FOUR teenaged daughters... Not pretty!

Sure Bruce, Your motor is shot. By the way, if you have an older unit, don't believe that the electronic panel just pops off by pressing tabs - you have to remove the screws under the lid.
