My outside of my GE refrigerator feels warm to the touch in a few spots midway up the front and side. Is this normal or do I have a problem brewing?

Could be normal but this is often associated with poor air circulation around the condenser coils.

Remove the rear cover and front kick plate and clean the condenser/compressor coils.
Check /clean the vents in both rear cover and kick plate.
If there is a condenser fan check that it is on when the compressor is on. Check/clean it's fan blades.
