A side by side fridge freezes food. Freezer temp 0F Fridge 30F. I lowered the Fridge control from 5 to 2.5 to get 40F to prevent frozen food but the refrigerator seems to run all the time. If I set the fridge control to 0, I hear a motor noise by the damper. Any ideas how to start troubleshooting this refrigerator? Thanks

Here are your parts Parts for 25353219300 - AppliancePartsPros.comIf you go to the Sears parts site they have actual part breakdown diagrams. Unfortunately they do not share these with other parts vendors. If you look up a part on AppliancePartsPros and click on it's picture or description often a new page will open with more info about that part. Damper stopped air flow when I set fridge control to 0 but fridge still getting 30F. Set this morning freezer control to 3 and unit finally stopped running. I am not sure what is going on in the above. With the damper closed the fresh food temperature should rise. Perhaps you just did not wait long enough as there is a lot of thermal mass (the food) in the compartment which also has to rise in temperature before you will see a temperature increase. Below is a link to a manual that covers your unit, you just have to be careful as it does also have info on other units in it. You will have to join the site and be logged in to be able to download it. http://appliancejunk.com...wnloads;sa=view;down=301 |

I think I explained badly this statement "Damper stopped air flow when I set fridge control to 0 but fridge still getting 30F. Set this morning freezer control to 3 and unit finally stopped running" What I mean is that the damper works fine mechanically when I set the fridge control to 0 (it stops the cold air flow). But the refrigerator is running non stop (even though I set the freezer to 2) and the damper does not close automatically, so the fresh food side is 30F. I don't know which control unit I have to order.

This is a weird problem as the freezer seems to be reaching the correct temperature (0 to 5 degrees F) but the compressor is not shutting off. So I would start by fixing this. Odds are that the freezer control thermostat is sticking closed. I would replace it. Note that I am not 100% sure that this is the prob;lem but it is the most likely cause of the compressor running all the time as long as the below evaporator inspection checks out OK. Why the fresh food section is so cold may be related to the freezer problem or may be a separate issue. One thing to check is that the lights go off when the door is closed. FREEZER EVAPORATOR INSPECTION.
I would remove the cover in the freezer so you can check the evaporator coils. If they are heavily iced/frosted over then you have a defrost problem. If there is just frost in one area (usually where the freon enters the coils) you have a sealed system problem. Be sure to do this test after the compressor has run for at least an hour or you may come to the wrong conclusion. I am off to the cabin today so will not be available till next week. Below is a link with lots of fridge repair info/help (especially in 1. Refrigeration Repair Aid Rooms section) perhaps it will be useful to you. http://www.applianceaid.com/refrigerator-help-section.php |

Thanks for your help. I am researching forn info on those sites. So far, it seems that the temperature control is the culprit.
