I replaced a failing defrost timer with a new one. Worked fine for about 3 weeks. Now the new timer is getting stuck in defrost mode and does not resume cooling, just as the old one did. Am I just unlucky? Do I just get another new timer? What causes these things to fail?

You can use an electronic timer AP4503409, has no moving parts.
