I received the starter device for the compressor. The wire locations are different. the ground wire is marked but it does not say where the white wire or the red wire goes. I just need to know if the red wire goes to the lower connection. That is where I suspect it goes but there is no indication. The old starter had the white wire at the top and the red wire at the bottom but a different arrangement.

Thanx

Is the start device a large box as shown on this site?

Hi Rich
No It's a relay that plugs into the side of the compressor via 3 prongs I'm told per the explanation on this sight. The one I removed had a rattle (not good). I ordered a new one but it is just enough different that I wan ted to make sure I reconnected it correctly.I took a guess and figured the red (HOT) went to the lower connection. That was where the old one was (kinda).
Anyway it is working so far so my fingers are crossed and it seems to be getting colder.

PS Thanx for asking.

Very good, the type start device is safe to use, unlike the ptc device. If you wire it wrong, you will blow out the compressor!

Thanx for the reply. Not being a electrical guy I was trying to be sure . I just went by what seemed logical, and couldn't wait any longer. Got lucky ! The instructions were fairly good but don't take into consideration all the applications which led to my problem for instance. Any way it's humming now and hope it stays that way.
One thing everybody should be aware is "KEEP THE COMPRESSOR AND FAN CLEAN" . I'm sure that was the reason mine failed.
