No Drain no Spin issue with Kenmore Stack-able washer

HI. I am trying to diagnose a drain issue with a Kenmore model 110.88752794 based on what my tenant has told me (haven't seen it myself). She is saying that the washer goes through the wash cycle but does not drain. She is saying that when she turns the knob to rinse and drain, when she opens the lid, there is the sound of the motor trying to spin and drain but there is no spin and you see bubbles inside the tube (as if the water is being re-directed to the inside the tub rather that existing) .. My initial guess was that the pump is bad or blocked and that is why the water seems to be shooting into the tub .. but than i wondered why she can see or hear anything of the Lid is open? once the Lid is open ,the motor should stop completely anyway, not?
Any guess what could be wrong, if what was described to me is accurate?
The tenant did mention that she had a heavy load (rugs) before the issue started, so maybe the coupler (the thing connecting the motot to tub) went bad? if the coupler is bad, does that disable the pump as well?
One last question, with this model/type of washer, how do you open the cabinet?
Thanks.

As this is a direct drive machine the pump runs all the time, so it is highly unlikely it is blocked. I would say you have a lid switch problem, but you are right it should not be running at all after the agitation cycle so not sure what your tenant is hearing. If the coupling were bad it would not agitate or spin, but it would drain.
This is a Whirlpool made machine but I cannot link you to a service manual. You can purchase one on line for a very small fee and do a search and you may be able to find a site that will let you download it for free.
