I have a Maytag stackable washer/dryer. SG7800, maybe 15 years old.
The washer spins but doesn't seem to spin fast enough to drain.
In the past when it went to sping cycle it seemed to start spinning and then would kick into a faster spin mode. It doesn't seem to do that now.
Is there a switch that kicks the motor into a higher speed?

No, what happens is that as the water drains the tub will pick up speed. The most common thing that will cause this on this model is a clogged pump or drain hose. First you will have to dip all the water out (shop-vac may work better). Then remove the hose and check for blockages in the pump and drain hose.

Before you remove the hoses check the pump belt to make sure it is not broken.
