Hi - I had the baking "element flame out" recently. There was obvious damage to it and I ordered a replacement. The broil element still works fine.

The replacement baking element still did not work (resistance test on new element was good). I measured the voltage going to the baking element and it appears bad. It goes from 19VAC to 40VAC as the relay trips. Fora sanity check I measured the voltage across the functioning broil element and as expected it went up to 240VAC.

Could the cause be anything other than the control board? Is there any way I could test the control board to be sure before ordering a new one? The part # for it is 74009213.

Is it possible to isolate the component on the control board and repair as opposed to replacing the whole thing? I don't see any obvious burn marks or anything, but I have not taken the board right off to examine yet.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

As long as the wiring is good odds are high that the board is bad.

Could be the bake relay's contacts are shot which could be repaired by replacing the relay.

Or the electronics which control the relay blew, this would not be fixable by most DIYers as there are no scematics of the control board.

AS a follow up....

I ordered a refurbished control board and replaced the existing one. That solved the problem.

When I took the old one off, I noticed a bad solder joint near the baking element relay. I assume that is the problem. I got a good deal on the refurbished control board, so there was not much point in trying to fix the old control board.

Just to summarize, the baking element basically "blew up" while in use. I assumed that replacing the baking element was all that was needed. When I did, it still was not working. I then measured the voltage going to the element and saw that it was not 240v. That meant that the control board had to be bad as well and was damaged in the element "blow up." After replacing the control board (which took no more than 5 minutes) all was good.;
