Good morning,
Hi I am a female that of course loves to save a dollar if I can. I love to repair things which I learn a lot from folks like you and YouTube lol. Here's my dilemma. I have Maytag MFC2061HEB that the freezer and fridge aren't cold enough. This is the first fridge I've ever attempted to repair. I have an Ohms tester just got to tell me what setting and what numbers to look for I have no idea on all the tech terms lol. So far there was frost building up at the top right of the freezers coils i believe where the coolant comes in. The temp of freezer wont get colder than 18 degrees when its completely empty and the fridge 48 empty as well. Both fans one in freezer and one in back for the condenser are clean and running. I have cleaned the condenser underneath the fridge really well. I have replaced the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. I have gone into the control programming and forced it into defrost mode which will still wouldn't come on. I bypassed the thermostat just wiring it together then forced into defrost mode and it defrosts. put the thermostat back in forced it and nope not defrosting. so i bought another thermostat tried it again and nope same problem. so if i kept it bypassed im assuming its not going to come on unless forced right? If not do you think if i kept it this way i could manually just put in defrost mode every day or so. Is this an ok test to see if the fridge and freezer would at-least get colder? I have not replaced the thermistors. There are 2 if not 3. Also the part in the fridge that turns on to open and close letting air in fridge from freezer seems to work fine. Our family has extremely limited income I can borrow from my mom to buy parts but not enough to just buy a new or used fridge. plus i really hate to give up this one for a used one that's simply not as nice. I read something on here earlier about a sealed system?? What is that? Thank you for any repair help this has been going on 2 months I've been driving back and forth to my moms to get stuff from her fridge. I just want to fix ours!!!! :)

Wrong
It will come on again when a defrost cycle is called for by the contyrol board

No. Do not leave it with the defrost thermostat shorted out. This is a safety hazard. Could cause the heater to get too hot and cause a fire.

A little too early to be replacing these.

The sealed system is the freon system. It includes the compressor, the evaporator (freezer) coils, the condenser (compressor) coils and the tubing which connects all these together.
Often it has a longer warranty so check your warranty.

This is very bad as it points towards a sealed system problem.
When the compressor is on then the sealed system is trying to cool the unit down re: there is no shut off inside the sealed system.
After the compressor has run for an hour there should be a nice even coating of frost on the evaporator coils.
I would unplug the unit and melt the ice/frost off the evaporator coils with a hair dryer. Do not try to chip it off.
Put the cover back on and let it rum for an hour.
Then remove the cover and check the coils.
It is important that you not check it just after a defrost cycle as you could end up with the wrong diagnosis.

Below is a link, check out the example pictures about a third of the way down the page.

If it is a sealed system problem this will be an expensive repair as you need a pro.

I am assuming that currently the compressor is running all the time other than when it goes into a defrost cycle. If not then you may have a different problem.
