Here are your parts Parts for Maytag MFI2568AEQ Refrigerator - AppliancePartsPros.comSee the attachment for the tech sheet. I am assuming that the compressor is vibrating. Since the compressor is on and there is no cooling, you have a sealed system problem. This will be an expensive repair as you need a pro. Often it makes sense to put those dollars towards a new unit. I would check your warranty as often the sealed system ahs a longer warranty. |

The sealed system is the compressor, the condenser coils under the unit, the evaporator coils in the freezer compartment and the tubing that connects all of these parts.
It compresses the freon and then pumps it to the evaporator coils where the freon expands and absorbs heat and this is how the unit cools the air.
So if the system had a leak and as low or out of freon that would be a sealed system problem. If the compressor had a mechanical fault that also would be a sealed system problem.
It is expansive to repair because you need a pro with special tools. In most places the tech must be certified to work with freon. Also it can be a time consuming task as an example if it is a low freon problem the leak must be found and repaired, will probably have to change the drier is the sysstem, the system must be evacuated and then filled with the correct amount and type of freon. |

It all depends what is wrong with it but the tech has to put a set of gauges on it to tell.
If it is low or out of freon this can take a lot of time to find the leak, repair it and recharge the system.
Looking at the parts if the compressor is shot it is about $310.00 from AppliancePartsPros so a repair shop will probably charge you more and the it has to be installed so you are looking at $600.00 up.
Best to call a couple shops and get quotes on replacing the compressor and what they usually charge for a freon fill. |
