Hi,
Have a 2003 Roper refrig. After approx. 6 weeks, water starts to run down the back of the refrig. section, to under the bottom crisper trays and then runs out the door. When I take it apart, the freezer drain is frozen and ice is covering the bottom of the freezer, under the freezer plastic bottom tray. It appears the defrost timer and heater are working. There's continuity in the heater and the ice is all melted off the coils and at the bottom of the compartment. The freezer drain is clear and when finally thawed with a hair dryer, water readily flows down to the evap. pan.
I have read that some freezers have a small strip attached to the heater that goes down the drain to thaw it. Is this something I can add? If so, what should I make it from - a small piece of aluminum strip? There appears to be no drain heater and I'm sick of tearing the freezer apart every 6-7 weeks.
The freezer drain appears to go down and then turn a right angle toward the rear of the refrig. before dropping toward the pan.

The second photo shows the ice starting to form and block the drain hole. :mad:
My freezer is in the upper section and the electric heating element runs right over the top of the drain hole. (dark tube in first photo). I found another site A Simple Fix for Your Refrigerator Drain Problems
that showed how to fashion a piece of copper wire into a drain heater.
A little further down on the first web site, shows the copper wire installed. I did the same to mine and I'm waiting to see if it actually works.
