One week old Kenmore Elite Freezer (upright). Twice in the past week the high temp alarm has sounded and temp on front was indicating 34 degrees the first time and 37 degrees the second time. I believe this is accurate as the inside of the freezer did not feel cold enough. I am afraid to put food in this unit. The door appears to be shutting properly and is not being opened except to feel inside when the alarm sounds. Thank you for any thoughts on this before I call re the warranty.

Best to get it fixed under warranty.
If try try taking something apart and break it they could void your warranty.

Would not be a bad idea to get a thermometer so you can tell what the actual temperature in the unit is.

Also they will want to know if the compressor is on when this happens.

Did the unit stay upright when moving it?
If not it should have been left unplugged for 24 hours.

Thank you, Denman. I just finished calling Sears warranty and they are sending a new freezer out next week. They gave me the option of a replacement or having a technician come and attempt to repair. They agreed that most purchasers would not want a repair on an eight day old freezer. I will say they were very gracious and efficient and I appreciate that. By the way, I can hear the compressor running and it sounds normal to me, there have been no power interruptions - I can't think of any reason for this other than there is some internal defect.

The unit was delivered and installed by Sears and as far as I know had always been upright.

If the compressor is running and it is not cooling then it is a serious problem so getting a new unit is definitely the way to go.

I am pleasantly surprised on how Sears treated you.
They do not have a very good reputation when it comes to customer service.
Hopefully they have changed their ways.

I didn't know about any problems with Sears Customer Service, but if they treated everyone like they did me, they would be at the top of the list. I just hope the new freezer is a good one. The temperature last night was 45 degrees; down to 17 this morning.
