I have a Whirlpool Gold gas dryer that is 7-8 years old. The dryer seemed to be stuck in a cycle and it was beeping. There was no error message on the display. It didn't respond to my attemps at changing the cycle for a while. Finaly I got the cycle cancelled, but then the control panel went dead. I tried unpluging the machine to see if something would reset, but no luck. This looks like a pretty expensive repair if I call someone out - and a intimidating DIY repair. Please Help !!!!!

There should be a tech sheet under the top cover, or if it is not there it would be inside the bottom service panel. See if you can locate it and get the machine into test/diagnosis mode.

This service manual for an earlier version may also help you.

The most likely candidate is your main control board, which is an easy but expensive repair, so see if you can confirm that it is the problem.

Thanks so much for your reply. My husband is looking for a cheap used gas dryer because of the expense of this repair.

I applaud that approach. I strongly suggest you avoid one with microprocessor controls, for reasons which you are currently familiar with.

A basic no frills dryer with a couple of settings will do an excellent job for you, last a long time, not need many repairs, and when it does need repairs they will not cost too much.

Good luck, let us know what you get.
