hello,my old amana will run fine it seems until after defrost cycle ends. When defrost timer ends defrost and goes to run cycle the condensor fan comes on but the compressor and evap. fan do not.If i manually rotate defrost timer around to defrost cycle again and let run course usually the run cycle will start and fridge works.I checked defrost timer, checked out ok.I was following schematic and seems like my next thought was the start relay on compressor. When i tested defrost timer everytime i cycled it the fridge worked the compressor and evap. fan came on.Let machine run then next day woke up and condensor fan on but no internal fan or compressor running.I looked at timer and had just come out of defrost cycle.I checked timer with power connectd and when cycled each side of relay has line voltage.I cycled timer around ,It took couple tries but fridge did start run again.
Any help or insight greatly appreciated.

You might have burnt contacts inside the defrost timer, and physically turning the timer clears the contacts temporarily.
The other failure could be a burnt wire splice from the timer. Timer part # R0131577

Thanks richappy,i original thought timer was proplem. I disconnected timer and checked continuity at contacts. There was a resistance reading on each pair of contacts as i tested but i thought not that hi.Maybe 12 or so ohms.cant remember exact measurement. When i test timer with line voltage each set of contacts has line voltage .It seems strange that the condensor fan will always come on but not compressor or evap. fan.I was thinking proplem in defrost circuit but when timer not in defrost im under impression circuit has no bearing on run cycle? Is that correct. That is why i was leaning to the compressor start relay.looking at schematic im not sure why the evap. fan doesnt come on when condensor fan comes on.Looks like both recieve line voltage from tempeture control for internal tempeture.
Thanks again.

If you have burnt contacts in the timer, the voltage out will drop much lower than 115 v. This low voltage may be sufficient to run the condensing fan, but not sufficient to run the compressor and evaporator fan.
I would carefully pry open the defrost timer and look for burnt contacts, you can always tape the timer back together, they are simple inside and easy to put back together.

That's a good idea thanks. I may just do that. I also thought about
Making jumper and just eliminate the timer to see if the fridge works properly for a day or two with out any problem to verify timer is definitely problem. Guess if I look at contacts and there burnt up pretty good indication it's N.G.
Thanks for all the help. I will get back with results.
