I am wondering how hard it is to actually swap out the compressor and the condensing coil? I have what I consider a ridiculous estimate from my local appliance repair person who I paid a lot of money to already to replace a bad relay switch and now they told me it could be one or both of these parts. Ive already ordered the kit for the compressor on here just minutes ago and I am wondering if there is an instruction video or step by step instructions somewhere that can tell me how to do this. Im very capable and have a good working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, etc...However the repair facility told me that I would have to have special tools to install these parts and recharge the unit properly...???? Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

First you will have to check your local laws. In most areas if the unit uses R12 refrigerant you must be licensed. Some places also include other freon types in this restriction. Next just Google "how to replace a refrigerator compressor" and a lot of info should come up. Below is a link to a manual on this. You will have to join the site and be logged in to be able to download the manual. http://appliancejunk.com...wnloads;sa=view;down=449This is not a job for a DIYer due to license requirements, required equipment and expertise. S unless you have a friend who has the tools and experience, I would not attempt it. In most cases if there is a sealed system problem it makes more sense to put the dollars towards a new unit. |
