Hi guys,
I'm not sure on the exact age of my ge dishwasher, but the front panel wasn't lighting up, I looked at the control panel and the blue ribbon is torn, so I have a few questions... Is there a fix for repairing ribbon like this?
Has anyone seen this model before? I can't find anything on it!
Some notes... I live in Canada, it's stainless steel, serial is gm601864a..
I would replace the header I just don't know where to find one? Or the slightest clue on cost.
I know it's the ribbon because if I pinch is the right way the control panel becomes engaged.
Control panel ribbon has a sticker it says.
10-048755 black 572d699g45
Thanks!

Yu probably cannot find the model because it is Canadian. I would double check the model number and give GE Canada a call.
GE parts used to be handled by Mabe. But I had heard that ReliableParts took them over. I am not sure about this.
Can you see the crack across the foil in the ribbon cable? A magnifying glass is probably need here. You could also check the tracks with a meter.
Are you sure that it is in the ribbon cable itself? Or is it that you are moving the cable in the connectors?
If it is a connector problem then perhaps the following will help. Connector Cleaning / Checking Unplug the unit Open it up Remove the ribbon cable from the keypad to the control board at the control board. Clean the edge connector. Use electronics contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol. If it is the type where there is not a connector just the insulation is removed, it can be cleaned with a pencil eraser. Do not use an ink eraser as it is too abrasive. Check the tracks in the ribbon cable for hairline cracks. A magnifying glass helps here. Would not hurt to clean the connector on the board. Use electronics contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol and a tooth brush. Be gentle and do not reconnect till all the solvent evaporates. Reconnect everything and give it a try.
As a last resort ribbon cables are repairable but you need a delicate hand. A magnifying glass also comes in handy here. You have to locate the crack in the track. Then scrape off the plastic coating on one side. This is where the delicate comes in. You need a very sharp exacto knife or scalpel. Although I have never tried it you might be able to sand it off with very fine sandpaper. Once you get down to bare copper you have to get yourself a repair kit. The kit they make to repair car rear window defroster elements works. Also they make kits to repair contacts in remote controls etc. Basically it is glue impregnated with copper in it. You then have to bridge the gap making sure that you do not short to other tracks. Once done you have to tape thin cardboard etc. to this area so that the cable cannot flex at your repair point. It is a pain, it can be difficult but it does work.
If the ribbon cable is brittle then the above is just a waste of time as it will just crack in another spot. |

The ribbon is torn/ripped and when I put it together on there, that's when it boots back up 99.9% sure that's the issue. Now I have to attempt your repair! Thanks!

Just replace the membrane keyswitch assembly (or console if it isnt sold separate), you will just have nothing but problems with it otherwise...
