I have a Maytag washing machine. The front says Maytag Dependable Care Plus, Heavy duty with 2 speeds and 11 cycles. I think that the model # is LAT 9804AAN or M. It has stopped working and the tub is still full of water. It had started shaking pretty bad per the tenant after I moved it in a few weeks ago. I tried to spin the tub inside the machine, but it would not move by hand. Is there a check-list that I could perform to assess the problem?

With washer on and full of water, does timer advance on it's own? If not, set timer to spin. Now will it advance on it's own? If not, probably a lid switch problem. Open control panel to access lid switch. Make sure washer is perfectly level to avoid unbalance conditions.
