I have an older Whirlpool Conquest fridge that started smoking. I pulled off the back panel at the bottom rear and the connector that goes to the compressor was burnt and black.
There was also a piece of foam caught in the fan although I don't know for sure if it was like this before, or it happened when I was pulling the fridge out.
I found some instructions on how to test the motor and I am getting 7 ohm across the top 2 pins, and 4.5 and 2.5 across the top - bottom. Based on what I found these reading seem ok.
I am wondering what to do at this point? Would the blocked fan cause the compressor connector to burn up? The connector is beyond repair so can I replace the ends and reconnect it, or is there something else I should do?
Thanks,
Todd

Hello, Todd.
Sounds like you need to replace the start components. Clean the compressor contacts with sand paper and install the new kit, recommended by Whirlpool: AP3873993. Make sure the condenser motor is turning free and condenser coils are clean.

Simon,
Thanks for the quick reply.
Is there anything I need to check, or is this pretty much a sure thing?
