Hello, My dryer (Kenmore Electric dryer model #11086186100) stopped heating, so I opened up the back to see what the problem was. When I touched the thermostat, it fell off. It looks like the wire going into it corroded and burnt. I need to remove part of that wire and the crimp end and put a new one on. The failed part is Gemline 85111. I contacted sears and they said the replacement was 694674. I ordered one online that came with the new crimp terminals that fit the new themostat. My question is this, there are two wires to attach to the new thermostat. Does it matter which one goes where? I think on the fuse, it makes no difference, but I think on the thermostat, it does. How do I know which of the pre-existing wires to attach to the new wires. The two terminals on the new thermostat look the same as each other.
Also, the kit came with wire nuts to connect the wires. Would you recommend that I use those or would it behoove me to use a different type of connector?
Thanks for any assistance you can provide! J

I like the black bakelite/hard plastic type that has the brass insert. the wire go into the insert and then there is a screw to tighten down on them. The bakelite cover then screws onto the insert. They are less likely to come loose over time. |
