My 13 year old side by side quit cooling. I replaced the overload and relay on the compressor and it started cooling for about a day and then quit again. I checked the evaporator coils in the freezer side and they look fine. The lights come on in both sides but nothing else is running (fans, compressor, etc.). Any ideas or suggestions?

Here are your parts Parts for Whirlpool ED25TEXHN00 Refrigerator - AppliancePartsPros.comSee the attachment for your tech sheet. Since the compressor and fans are not on it is probably a main thermostat or a defrost timer problem. Try turning the main thermostat to off and then back on. if the unit fires up replace the thermostat. If the above does nothing, leave the thermostat on and turn the defrost timer (item 6 in section 11) cam. There is usually a hole in the cover so that you can do this with a screwdriver without any dis-assembly. It only turns in one direction. If the unit fires up replace the timer re: you were stuck in a defrost cycle. If neither of the above does anything. Unplug the unit and measure across the main thermostat contacts, should be 0 ohms (closed) if not replace the thermostat. If you do not have a meter you could short the two thermostat wires together and then plug it in to see if it works. Just be careful that nothing can short to anything else. |

I took your advice and determined that the main thermostat needed to be replaced. I replaced it yesterday, it took about 15 minutes, and my refrigerator is working like a champ. Plus I scored bonus points with the wife. haha Thanks again!!

You are welcome
And thanks for getting back to us. Now when others search for a similar problem they will see what actually worked instead of just suggestions about what could be the cause. |
