Hello all,

I opened up my dryer today to clean out all vents because it has been taking 2-3 times to fully dry out clothes. It heats up, but I guess not hot enough it seems. I took the element out and this is what I found...

As you can see, half of the element looks fried. I do not have a multimeter to test this out, but I think it is safe to say half the element went bad and that is why the dryer is now working twice as hard to dry the clothes. This has been my first time in dealing with a dryer issue so I am looking for confirmation before ordering a new element. Thanks in advance everyone, I appreciate the feedback.

Can't confirm without taking multimeter readings. Coil should read between 7.8 and 11.8 ohms, reading from coil terminal to the metal case should be infinity. Looks like part of the coil has been grounding out which would cause it to be on all the time but at reduced wattage output.

Is there a good online guide somewhere to tell me exactly how to test this using a multimeter? I have never used one before on anything.

And regardless, do I need a new element now no matter what?
