Hello,

I have an older Whirlpool ED25CQXFW01 fridge that I am trying to limp along. I recently replaced the defrost timer thinking it was causing my symptom. Basically, the fridge will run fine and keeps things cold (and frozen within the freezer). After several hours (almost as if when cycling by the defrost timer) it will fail to start and items in the freezer begin to thaw. A simple bump on the control panel within the refer section starts up the condenser fan every time. Is this a sign of a failing thermostat?

A video should help...

Thanks in advance!

If the compressor also shuts down when it fails, I would suspect a sticking cold control in back of the control panel.
I would drop the control panel and look for burnt wires, if ok, I would tap on the cold control to verify a bad cold control.

Thanks for the response.

There is no indication of burnt or arced wires anywhere within the control panel.

It seems to occur when cycling after a full run of the defrost timer. In other words when the defrost timer (new) cycles into the 30 minute phase after the 8 hour, the compressor fails to turn back on. A gentle bump of the face of the control panel anywhere near the cold control will start it back up. I guess I should give the cold control a shot.
