I press the start button on the dryer and the dryer starts and heats up as long as I continue to hold the start button. When I release it, it stops. I purchased a "switch push to start" part from you and installed it but it did not solve the problem. Help!

Thanks

Here is a good site with info
http://www.applianceaid.com/dryers.html

Since it is near impossible to get tech info on GE's off the web I am using the above link, then #5 GE Dryers, then #28 Sample wiring diagrams and then #4 Newer electric GE.

If you do not have it check in the control console to see if they hid the wiring diagram there.

Anyways back to the sample wiring diagram you will see that the unit has an Idler Spring Switch. If it or the motor's centrifugal switch do not close the motor will shut off when you release the Push To Start.
If the drum does not rotate you probably need a new belt.
If the drum rotates then perhaps the switch is blown.

Could also be the centrifugal switch but the idler switch is much easier to troubleshoot so I would start there.
