Hi,

I have an old Eaton Viking electric dryer. A few years ago the coil broke and I threaded a new coil in the existing housing; worked great for years.

This time the coil broke but my local supplier didn't have just the coil, so I replaced the entire unit (coil and housing with electronic components). They looked it up by model number and everything fit perfectly, so I figure it was the correct part. I also vacuumed out all the insides when I had it apart.

Ever since, the dryer has been running way too hot, so much that it's slightly burnt a few things and melted a plastic zipper.

I'm wondering why this might be happening and if there's anything I can do about it. Given that I vacuumed everything out, is there any chance that they changed the electronics in some way that changed the temperature (I haven't taken it apart again to compare the individual electronic components to the original).

Thanks and happy holidays!

can you tell if the element is shutting off at all, or is it on the whole time the dryer is running? if the element has somehow shorted to ground, it will be on all the time, i believe. if the element is shutting off, but is taking too long to shut off, the problem is probably in the thermostats.
