I turned the oven on to preheat. A little later I smelled something burning...the broiler was on and wouldn't turn off. It had error code E2 F3...is that the temperature sensor?

yes that error code refers to the temp sensor. However, other things that could cause this problems are bad or corroded connections between the temp sensor and the control board, or a bad control board itself. I would check the connections first, and if that does not resolve the issue, test the temp sensor. the control board is the last resort. here is a GREAT link that tells you how to check your temp sensor :
