My GE Fridge Profile side by side model PSS26SGRBSS started with a problem yesterday. When you try to get ice dispensed (cube or crushed) it doesn’t do it and the little green indicator on top of the mode you selected dims and/or go dark when you push the “lever” with the cup or glass.
The same thing happens if you try to get water. It seems that some fan inside the freezer stops.
After you release the lever the indicator light comes back and the fan works again.
I made some tests like retrieving the ice bucket and moving by hand the driver auger. With some help and the freezer door open I pushed the light (door close/open) switch and someone pushing the dispenser lever the auger didn’t even tried (or couldn’t) to turn. Later I noticed that the temperature setting indicator/displays also goes dim/dark when trying to get ice or water.
So far the both Freezer and Fresh food sides are cooling OK.
I checked some repair blogs and many point to the main control board. In one of them was suggested to disconnect the Fridge from the AC power for 15 to 20 seconds and plug it again hoping that a reset of the board could solve some issue. I did, but no cigar. Then, for a couple of minutes I could hear the clacking of a relay in the board. When that stopped it was back to square one.
The control board is a relative expensive part that I don’t know if can be returned if happens not to be the problem.
