My Kenmore side-by-side has within the last couple of months stopped cooling on the refridgerator side, but the freezer is freezing great. I defrosted completely and the refrigerator then cooled as it should for about a month - then again started warming up and now will not cool down but to about 50 degrees. I have a sheet of ice now on the bottom of the freezer section that has frozen over into the ductwork at the bottom of the freezer section. In the last few months I have been hearing a popping noise seemingly coming from inside the freezer section. I would appreciate any detailed step-by-step instructions you can provide, and please understand that I am a complete novice on such things. Thank-you so very much!

You said the freezer is great but have you checked it's temperature? It should be between 0 and 5 degrees F. The ice in the bottom of the freezer is probably due to a plugged drain hose. This will be under the evaporator coil in the freezer. I drains water created during the defrost into a drip tray under the unit. If the unit has an ice maker then you will have to check that it is not leaking/overfilling. Check that the vent between the two compartments is clear of food etc. on both sides. Plugging the vent will impede air flow and cause the fresh food side to get warm especially at the top. Check that the baffle/diffuser at the top rear of the fresh food section is open. This allows cold air from the freezer to enter the fresh food side. Here are your parts Parts for Kenmore Refrigerator 10656249400 - AppliancePartsPros.comIf you go to the Sears parts site they have part breakdown diagrams. Unfortunately they do not share these with other parts vendors. See the attachment for the tech sheet. |
