I have an older (1997) Gibson front loader. My wife recently complained that the softener dispenser is full of water after every wash cycle. The dispenser is in a little drawer (Part Number AP3672628) on the top left of the machine. I removed the softener cup cover (Part Number AP2106469) and looked around. Nothing seems to be broken, missing, or dirty. I can't figure out how anything gets out of the cup. There is no drain hole in the bottom and no suction tube. I'm baffled.
Any ideas on what needs to be replaced to get it working again?

This is a Frigidaire made machine, and the fabric softener gets into the wash by having solenoids divert water to the tray in which the fabric softener is held. So your problem is either lack of diversion of the water or a clog, the clog being more likely because fabric softener is gooey, sticky stuff (and probably is not worth the problems it causes, but other may feel differently) Anyway here is a link http://www.emaservicetips.com/p..._TumbleActionWashers.pdfto the service manual for your machine. Pages 37 + explain how the dispenser works and later in the manual it will show you how to remove things and clean it out. Good luck, and think about whether or not you really need the softener.

Thank you. that explains it perfectly. I didn't consider that the cup insert would create a siphon to empty the cup. I'm sure I can fix this. Thanks again.
