My dryer will only turn on when the dial is turned to a cool down mode - either in the Automatic Dry or Timed Drying. If the dial is set anywhere else, and I push the start button, nothing happens at all.

Time for a new timer? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Whirlpool Model# LER7646JQ0 (electric).

Interesting Problem, and one that may be in your wiring or the heating element

If you have a wiring diagram I would check the wiring and circuits to and from the motor to the heating element and check the heating element itself for continuity or grounding. Some of these machines are wired such that the dryer will not come on if there is a problem in this area.

Also check the thermal fuses/thermostats and make sure you are getting 120v to each side of the connection block.

If you do not find any problems you could replace the timer and see if that solves the problem.

Good luck.
