Basin fills with water, the switch turns off the flow then when the wash cycle goes to engage it makes a humming noise for a few seconds then the machine stops. At this point the basin will not drain, and I cannot get the machine to run any of the cycles. I turn the selector to each cycle and it does the same thing, hums for a few seconds then stops.

Here are your parts RUD4000SQ1 See the attachment for the tech sheet. You have to find out where the hum is coming from. I suspect it is the motor. Sounds like it is overheating and then tripping an internal thermal protect. Could be it is seized or the impeller has something in it. Check that the armature turns easily. If it is OK check across it for 120 volts when it should be running. If you get 120 then the motor is toast. If the voltage is low, check across the start relay contacts. There should be 0 volts when the relay is closed. If there is voltage then the relay contacts are bad re: they are dropping voltage so there is not enough voltage across the motor to start it. |
