Admiral washer will fill with cold water only in warm setting. Will fill with hot water in hot setting.
Turned off cold supply while in warm setting and water flow stopped.
Also, the wash cycle seems to agitate weakly/slowly.

There is a thermistor in the water valve inlet assembly that measures the water temperature and it will energize both the hot and cold valves intermittently during the fill cycle. Did it fill all the way with cold only?

Yes. I stood there with my finger in the stream until it filled completely. Cold only.

Okay, and how about the hot? Does it ever fill with cold or hot only?

Do you have a meter to test resistance with?

Yes. But I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to that unless I have a detailed step by step instruction.

You will need to unplug the machine and remove the back from the timer console to expose the connections on the main control board. On the board, there is a connector labeled J3 with 5 wires in it. There are two black wires in that harness, a blue, a red and a white. Remove the connector from the control carefully. Use your meter, set to read resistance of at least 100k ohms. Now, test between the two black wires in that harness, looking for a reading of about 50-60k ohms of resistance. Anything vastly different indicates that the thermistor is faulty and the valve assembly will need to be replaced. If that is indeed the case, the correct valve for your machine is available below. Let me know what you find. Whirlpool W10423125 Valve - AppliancePartsPros.com
