If the hard start kit does start it, do not leave it on there. The large starting capacitor will kill the start winding in a very short time. The PRO 41 is a generic relay that has no start cap on it. These are not recommended if the original is available, but that is up to you.

Well, the hard start kit is doing exactly what the original and replacement starter did. Overloading after a short time and cutting off the compressor.
Which determines that:
A) every PTC relay cannot be tested the same way. Whirlpool PTC relays have a circuit board/computer chip inside- so the standard resistance test between the 2 side to side terminals does not apply.
B) The compressor windings can test good but still have a bad compressor- even locked up- this according to a refrigerator repair expert.
c) If the hard start kit would have worked- I would have left it on there for good. This is ok according to the repair expert.
Heading out to sears to pick up a new unit.
