Hi Guys! I'm new to the forum so please forgive me if my questions have been asked and answered millions of times already ..

I recently acquired an old Whirlpool washer and dryer - I've had them for a little less then two months (but they are probably between 5- 10 years old). The washer and dryer have been working great with no problems - then last night, the dryer just stopped working! I have tried to unplug and replug but clearly that isn't the issue. When I restart it, it makes a humming noise like it WANTS to start, but it just won't. Then I started noticing a slight burning smell - not too sure what thats about. And also noticed it making a clicking noise even when it is set on "off" - so I completely unplugged it. Please HELP!!

I know I will need to call someone to repair this - but I would really love some advice on what may be going on with it. Your advice and suggestions are very much appreciated! Thank you!!

A model number may help others help you.

Sounds like a motor problem.

Try turning the drum in he correct direction manually. It should turn fairly easily. If not there may be an problem with the drum supports re: it has to much mechanical resistance so the motor cannot get it to start turning.

It could be that the motor is clogged solid with lint.

Most likely the motor is shot and needs replacing.
