fridge is not getting cold. it was working fine but my idiot brother in law unplugged it when i went to work. it was unplugged for 6 months until i got back. when i plugged it back in it the evaporator motor would not come on but the compressor comes on and the condensor fan comes on. the fridge does not get cold at all. i opened the back of the freezer and noticed the ground wiring and connectors were corroded. i cleaned the wiring and connectors and it still doesnt work. the fridge nor freezer come on. i dont understand why it worked when it was unplugged but not when it gets plugged back in. is it the evaporator fan that cools off the fridge and freezer or just the freezer and the condensor went out as well?

Here are your parts Parts for GE CTX14CYXKLWH Refrigerator - AppliancePartsPros.comIf the evaporator coils have no cooling (frost) on them when the compressor is running then you probably have a sealed system problem. Be sure that the compressor has run for about an hour before checking them. If you check them during or shortly after a defrost cycle then you may come to the wrong conclusion. A sealed system problem will be an expensive repair as you need a pro. Often it makes more sense to put the dollars towards a new unit. You can usually hear when the compressor is on but should also be able to feel it vibrating. Whenever the condenser/compressor fan is on the compressor should be on. I am assuming that it is on all the time except when the unit goes through a defrost cycle. All the evaporator/freezer fan does is to pull air through the evaporator coils so it cools properly. It also circulates the air in the freezer and pushes it into the fresh food compartment. So even with it off there should be frost on the evaporator coils. |
